Fay Maschler celebrates her birthday at L'Escargot

The UK’s pre-eminent restaurant critic Fay Maschler and a glittering feast of foodie legends descended on L’Escargot in Soho to celebrate her 70th birthday.
The entire town house was transformed into a gourmet odyssey with her best friends from the industry supplying her favourite dishes and tipples.
Champagne Laurent Perrier was served from magnums all night. L’Escargot’s Head Chef Oliver Lesnik produced snails by the hundred and celebrity chef Richard Corrigan sent his top prize-winning shuckers to open an endless stream of oysters.
Quo Vadis’s Jeremy Lee took control of the kitchen and with his brigade produced the most delectable smoked eel sandwiches. Bao who have recently established themselves as the prevalent street food pop-up to restaurant success story delivered stunning pulled pork steamed buns and crispy chicken.
Chutney Mary sent their top Mayfair team to deliver lamb Biryani and Oliver Peyton had the unenviable task and honour of producing a huge chocolate on chocolate on chocolate mousse cake. Just as the manager nervous presented the cake, local legend Peter Stringfellow burst into the room “High guys, hope I haven’t come at an awkward time!”
